APA Titled Musculoskeletal, Physiotherapist and Practice Principal
M.Man.Thpy, BAppSc(Phty)
Lillian Lau is an APA Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and the Practice Principal at Annandale Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic. She has practised since 2006 and works primarily with complex musculoskeletal conditions, particularly referred pain, neck dysfunction and spinal and pelvic problems.
What “APA Titled” means. Titling is a credential awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists, which sits within the Australian Physiotherapy Association. It is granted on the basis of postgraduate qualification, demonstrated clinical competence and peer assessment, and it is held by only a small proportion of Australian physiotherapists. It is not a self-description, it is earned and externally awarded.
Her clinical work draws on McKenzie and Mulligan Concepts, Muscle Energy Techniques, fascial and visceral manipulation, and dry needling. She attends international musculoskeletal conferences regularly to keep her practice current, and she is committed to treatment that is grounded in evidence rather than habit.
Lillian opened her own practice because she wanted to deliver care a particular way. One physiotherapist with one patient, in a private room, for the whole appointment. No treating several people at once, and no rebooking anyone who does not need to come back.
She assesses every patient from scratch, even those arriving with an existing diagnosis, because inheriting someone else’s conclusion clouds the judgement of whoever comes next. She treats the impairments that come with a condition rather than the label, and she reassesses when progress stalls.
Above all she believes education is the most useful thing a physiotherapist can offer. If you understand why you are doing an exercise, you will do it properly at home, and that is where recovery actually happens. She would rather you asked questions and challenged her than nodded politely and stopped.
Lillian’s career spans rehabilitation for work-related injuries, exercise prescription and sports injury management, with substantial experience in private practice and orthopaedic rehabilitation. She has particular experience with patients whose problems have not resolved elsewhere.
Lillian is Mum to an energetic toddler and the furparent of M, the clinic mascot, a sheltie who has sat in on Pilates sessions at Annandale Physio for over ten years. In her own time she dances, and practises aerial lyra and acrobalance, embracing movement both professionally and personally.
